Greetings,

I want to thank you for taking the time to visit the St. Mary's  web site. It is my hope
that as you browse around the site you will learn more about our school and our
commitment to providing a values-based education to young men and women in
grades seven through twelve.

In 1881, Monsignor Strain, then-pastor of St. Mary's Parish, opened the doors for
a grammar school designed to provide for the educational needs of children in the
parish community. This year, we celebrate one hundred and twenty-five years of
Catholic education at St. Mary's, and though the school has gone through
numerous changes in the last century and a half, Monsignor Strain's original
vision of providing a Catholic education to young women and men from Lynn and
other North Shore communities remains unchanged.

Through the years, St. Mary's has strived to fulfill that vision and we have done
exceptionally well in providing a high quality, Catholic education for children of
middle and lower income families. In addition, we continue to hold a strong belief
that, whenever possible, St. Mary's will provide the children of new immigrant
families the same ‘leg-up' education that served prior generations so effectively.

We are proud of our Catholic faith and heritage. The Catholic identity of this
school is manifested in the way we operate and treat each other. Students of all
faith traditions are welcomed and respected. Faculty, staff and students are
expected to participate in various school liturgical celebrations and all students
are required to take a four-year program of religious study.

Our school community has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and
this fall we opened our doors to 713 students in grades seven-twelve, an increase
of 70% from our enrollment in 1998-1999 when the strategic plan that provided
the blueprint for St. Mary's renaissance was first unveiled. Thanks to the great
commitment of our faculty and staff, along with the extraordinary generosity of
our alumni, friends and other benefactors, St. Mary's has become a leading
institution for Catholic secondary education in greater Boston and we continue
to grow.

Please enjoy your visit to our new website and thank you for your support and
interest in St. Mary's.

Dr. Raymond A. Bastarache
Head of School
